A 1951 bottle of Penfolds Grange sold for a record $80,386 at a Langton’s online auction last night.

The previous record was $78,000 set earlier this year.

There are believed to be fewer than 20 bottles of the wine in existence.

A full set of Grange (1951-2013) fetched almost $350,000 at the auction.

The 1951 Grange, made by the legendary Max Schubert, is known as the experimental Grange and was never sold commercially.

The retail record for a 1951 Grange is $65,000. Dan Murphy’s sold it to a customer in 2015.
