Following a recent new partnership deal, Winequip are now the sole distributor for Lallemand biological products in WA, NSW, ACT, QLD, VIC, and TAS. In this blog series, we introduce you to the faces behind the Winequip and Lallemand, so you know who to look to in your part of the wine world. First up, meet Lallemand commercial director Jason Amos, the #winepeleton cycling-guru with a love of good food, wine and gin. 

What is your role with Lallemand?

Commercial director. I’m responsible for the technical application and distribution of Lallemand’s yeast, bacteria and their derivatives in Australia, New Zealand and South East Asia.

What do you love about your job?

The diversity of winemakers, wine regions and wine styles – Margaret River chardonnay is different to Adelaide Hills and Riverland chardonnay, as is Yarra Valley chardonnay to Tumbarumba and Hawkes Bay.

No day is the same either – we are servicing corporate, bulk wine, contract processors, medium & small producers, family wine companies, and even single-man operations.

What makes Lallemand unique in your eyes?

Lallemand is still a family owned business, which enables us to be dynamic and flexible to the needs of the industry. This makes us more relevant.

Its willingness to collaborate, listen and apply at all levels of the industry. Its willingness to invest in R&D and apply the outcomes to industry, as well as being dynamic and flexible.

The key factor for our success is how our staff, research partners, distributors and their representatives apply these principles and philosophies.

How do you think Lallemand’s role has changed in the wine landscape over the years?

The industries needs have changed. The industry have polarized its approach in managing risk. Some businesses are risk adverse, whereas others are willing to risk everything (some with logical assessment, others are not so controlled). Our role is to adapt and apply according to the client’s needs.

When you’re not at work, where might we find you?

Riding my bike across the country in search of more hills to climb (if only it could pay the bills!).
